Akbuk is a truly magical place that once visited is hard to leave. You are still in touching distance of the main resort of Altinkum, a mere 18km, but you are far enough away to experience Turkey for what it is. Akbuk is smaller and less commercialized than Altinkum. The area is covered with protected forests and olive trees, with the background scenery being immensley lush and green due to the tree covered mountains. The sea views are also truly magnicifcent and breathtaking. The region has many small clean beaches and bays with the crystal clear water of the Aegean Sea creating a perfect peaceful setting. The bays in the area are very safe for all the family to enjoy and Akbuk has been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness. It is also purported to have the highest oxygen ratio and the lowest humidity of Turkey, making it one of the most naturally healthy environs in which to live.
Akbuk was made a township in 1991 and has continued to develop due to careful planning thus still maintaining its rural feel to the area. Akbuk is an ideal resort for families and for the connoisseur who enjoys beautiful scenery, transquility and water sports.
Akbuk used to be a small fishing port where the fishermen would go to catch delicious Aegean sea bass. Today, however, Akbuk is rapidly growing into an elite tourist resort with its holiday complexes, villas, harbour and hotels. The local fishermen tend to use there boats during the summer season for trips around Akubk Bay. If you are a keen angler, fishing from almost anywhere along the Akbuk coastline will net you Sea Bass, Sea Bream, etc., At the local fishing farm you can enjoy freshly caught fish being diligently prepared for you to eat whilst watching the world go by.
There is a Greek Chapel on the coastline close to the town center which is very well preserved and is open to the general public. The Town Centre, although small, has all the provisions and shops needed for everyday living, i.e. supermarkets, chemists, electrical stores, hardware suplliers, plumbers etc.,. There are many little local supermarkets which sell a variety of goods. Akbuk also have there own doctors, dentists, schools and a bus station with regular services going to all of the neighbouring towns including Altinkum, Soke and Kusadasi and a new petrol garage has just been built. There is also a local weekly market open every Friday. The market is fairly large and as well as the local farmers selling their fresh produce, you can also purchase clothing, household goods and gardening plants.
With Akbuk rapidly growing, there are now a growing number of small restaurants and cafes within the area. The Hitit Pizza is a family run business selling traditional turkish cuisine and fresh fish in comfortable and beautiful suuroundings overlooking the sea at very cheap prices. There are also bars and a few discos dotted along the coast road and town centre. Some of the bars have traditional Turkish Folk bands playing so you can relax and enjoy the sounds whilst havıng a drink or a meal.
